Make it higher with the Baby IQ product line from Brainy Baby! Anyone who reads this site should already know I’m a HUGE fan of Brainy Baby. I find them to be so much better then the other guy. Recently TV for babies has been debated, but just like everything else I think it depends on how you do it. I don’t believe TV should be a babysitter, so the more it involves the parents the better in my mind. In cooperation with the National Literacy Trusts – Talk to You Baby Campaign, Brainy Baby has a new, to us anyway, line of videos and CDs. Apparently thy have been in the UK for a few years now. Their Baby IQ videos feature NO Words. Seem weird? The point is that you actually talk to your baby. Instead of some unknown, faceless voice saying “One,” your baby hears your voice and sees your face as you say “Wow, look at the one brown dog! He’s running!” creating a larger vocabulary. Instead of learning “One” your baby will learn whatever you can associate with the video. Instead of voices you will hear beautiful classical music played by The London Symphony Orchestra. There is a series of 4, Colors, Counting, Baby’s First Words, and The World Around us. The available CDs are extended versions of the songs played in the video. Good classical music for the car, naptime, or playtime. DVDs are $17.95 CDs are $14.95
Okay enough facts and info. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty. I have watched all the DVDs, they are pretty well assembled. We seem to watch counting and colors the most. For colors they shows screens of items in particular colors, obviously, then show rainbow items. There is a few minutes of each color before the adorable Baby I or Baby Q, wonderful little marionette babies, do a little skit to show what color is next. Those babies are so stinkin’ cute! I wonder if Brainy Baby will offer stuffed toys of them! Besides the obvious of sitting and watching to DVDs while talking to Blu about what he sees, I’ve been known to just play them while we play together. Sometimes he may stop for a minute to watch, sometimes not, but the music is good to play to. It also seems perfect for nap time. We will watch a video, talk about it, and eventually he just goes to sleep.
The CDs, well I do listen to them. In reality they are great classical music. They aren’t some super special CD with some special benefit. Classical music isn’t exactly a sing-a-long, but it has been proven to raise IQs. In general though the CDs are better classical music recording then any other Baby CD I’ve heard, and they are equal to any adult CD. So I recommend them. If it wasn’t for the cute babies, toys, etc on the packaging I’d say to buy them for your adult friends too!
Since they are UK based it can be tough to find them locally, but don’t fret, You can buy them at THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL STORE!
Be sure to check out their website too, it features sample screens, a few mini games, and the list of awards they’ve won.
